چکیده

We propose and experimentally investigate the use of SPM broadened spectrum filtering technique to suppress homodyne crosstalk of high-speed optical signals. Crosstalk tolerance is found to be enhanced by about 4-dB for 10-Gbps RZ data.

Phase-Sensitive Parametric Signal Processing in Optical Communications

This thesis covers the analysis of several schemes for parametric processing in fiberoptic communication systems, focusing mainly on phase-sensitive processing. Vector phase-sensitive amplifiers are characterized and phase regeneration of a dualpolarization (DP)-binary phase-shift keying signal (BPSK) signal is experimentally demonstrated. Theoretically, the requirements for achieving polarizat...

Self-homodyne 24×32-QAM superchannel receiver enabled by all-optical comb regeneration using brillouin amplification.

We demonstrate and characterize an all-optical self-homodyne (SH) frequency superchannel enabled by comb regeneration at the receiver. In order to generate the superchannel, we use a frequency comb with 26 carriers spaced by 25 GHz at the transmitter, from which 24 carriers are modulated with polarization-multiplexed 32 quadrature amplitude modulation (PM 32-QAM) data. To enable comb regenerati...

Self-Homodyne Detection in Optical Communication Systems

We review work on self-homodyne detection (SHD) for optical communication systems. SHD uses a transmitted pilot-tone (PT), originating from the transmitter laser, to exploit phase noise cancellation at a coherent receiver and to enable transmitter linewidth tolerance and potential energy savings. We give an overview of SHD performance, outlining the key contributors to the optical signal-to-noi...

Simultaneous All-Optical Demultiplexing and Regeneration Based on Self-Phase and Cross-Phase Modulation in a Dispersion Shifted Fiber

Simultaneous demultiplexing and regeneration of 40-Gb/s optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) signal based on self-phase and cross-phase modulation in a dispersion shifted fiber is numerically and experimentally investigated. The optimal walkoff time between the control pulse and OTDM signal is obtained by numerical simulation. Our experiment also shows that it is an effective method for rea...

Novel real-time homodyne coherent receiver using a feed-forward based carrier extraction scheme for phase modulated signals.

We report a novel real-time homodyne coherent receiver based on a DPSK optical-electrical-optical (OEO) regenerator used to extract a carrier from carrier-less phase modulated signals based on feed-forward based modulation stripping. The performance of this non-DSP based coherent receiver was evaluated for 10.66 Gbit/s BPSK signals. Self-homodyne coherent detection and homodyne detection with a...
